Dating to the Cretaceous, the pterosaur was excavated in Qianyang, near Yixian,  Liaoning Province, N.E. China.

 

Prepared in our studio, we can guarantee the pterosaur is 100% genuine, authentic fossilized pterosaur!

We subjected the fossil to rigorous, lengthy examination under stereo microscope, testing to confirm  the fossil is 100%  authentic with NO restoration, crack, gap filling whatsoever.

We discovered one wing claw partially preserved - both of the delicate sternal plates are preserved.

The left foot will prepare further to show individual digits.

The skull is preserved with lower jaw above the cranium in ventral aspect (underneath of the jaw is displayed)

Cranium is preserved in profile.

Morphology of the toothless, bird like beak, proportions of skull to body etc, indicate this is Sinopterus sp - possibly S. gui.

Presented & prepared by Triassica - this incredibly rare genuine pterosaur; deaccessioned from a significant, important private museum collection.

The original thin matrix within which the pterosaur is embedded is professionally mounted onto a thick resin & board backing - a neccessary procedure to preserve the delicate, hollow, thin walled bones (prolific fragmentation attesting authenticity).

Prospective buyers may be reassured that we are familiar with all practices employed to fabricate pterosaurs and other Asian fossils, including for instance;

a) using extant animal bones (birds especially, chicken, frog, rat)

b) breaking, crushing extant species bones to replicate fragmentation in fossilized bones,

c) dyeing, tanning, painting extant species bones,

d) deliberate breaking of fake matrix (to replicate such found in genuine matrix),

e) use of man made materials to form bones, claws,

f) carving bones, claws in matrix.
