Dinosaur bone fossils

Dating to the Cretaceous, this spectacular fossil originates from Hell Creek Formation, Southern Montana, USA.

Discovered whilst excavating an Edmontosaurus dinosaur, this is real dinosaur skin, having first mummified prior to fossilization.

The skin is raised above the matrix and is not just a negative impression

Negative skin impressions are rare and usually of much smaller dimensions - typically 3/4" square.

This specimen is extraordinarily rare, being the actual fossilized skin and NOT skin impression in matrix.

The scales of variant sizes are extremely clearly defined.

However - the most incredible aspect of this dinosaur skin is the preservation of creases and folds as the skin lay on the dinosaurs body.

It is just astonishing to see the skin folds - so well preserved that it looks like still living dinosaur skin tissue enveloping subcutaneous fat and muscle!

Whilst much smaller examples of dinosaur skin and even larger specimens have been discovered - none compare to or possess such DRAMATIC, DEFINED folds and creases!

It is the mummified, fossilized creases formed amongst the folds of skin, draped over the dinosaurs body that make this specimen so uniquely rare and desirous!

The skin has no repair or restoration and measures 3 3/4" x 2" (9.5cm x 5cm).
